Water of Mt. Lethe / Mt. Lethe Recall Scroll

RESTRICTION: 20+ Technically, Realistically Level 50+

The Story So Far...

Harlune is a reclusive mage, just discovered to be an Empyrean in disguise.  He does not like visitors, but if you pester him enough, he may have a job for you.

Step 0: Preparation

  • Lockpicker needed for both dungeons

  • Mite Maze:

    • Basic Protects

  • Mt. Lethe Magma Tunnels

    • Full Protects (Magic and Physical)

    • Armor-Rending or Phantom Weapon for Killing the Virindi Overseer and Lord Cambarth.

Step 1: Harlune the Misanthrope

Head over to the Mite Maze and talk to Harlune the Misanthrope.  Surprise!  He has revealed himself to be an Empyrean!  Talk to him repeatedly.  Here are some of the things you might hear him say:

Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "What, looking for some great quest, some grand purpose from the Empyrean?  Go away!"
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "Never seen an Empyrean before?  Shoo! Shoo!  I have work to do."
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "Go away!  And don't tell Asheron I am down here.  Never could stand the man..."
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "Off with you!  I am a busy mage!"
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "It was so much better when you people thought I was one of you.  That's impossible now, thanks to that cretin, Gaerlan."

Finally, he will tell you:

Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "Well, if you are going to continue to bother me, you can at least do something for me.  Take this note to Celcynd in Rithwic.
Harlune the Misanthrope gives you A Crabbed Note.
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "He borrowed one of my history books sometime ago and didn't return it because he became a drunken waste.  Probably spilled alcohol all over it."
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "Go get it and I'll give you some scroll I've got lying around here... or not.  Will you leave me alone then?"

Step 2: Celcynd the Dour

Next, head over to Rithwic and find Ceclynd hanging out at the bar.  Hand him the note, and he will tell you:

Celcynd the Dour tells you, "Oh.  yeah, I have that.  If Harlune sent you, you must be getting something back from him, right?  I'll tell you what.  There's this... this thing that I need.  From a volcano in the Direlands."
Celcynd the Dour tells you, "You'll find it at the very bottom, but you must be level 20 or above to get in.  Wait, I'll write you the location."
Celcynd the Dour gives you Mount Lethe Directions.

Step 3: Mt. Lethe Magma Tunnels

Ok, now it's off to the Dires.  As should be expected, buff up to the max for the run.  The closest run from there is to find someone with a tie to the Sclavus Cathedral in the mid Dires and run due west to get there.  Once inside, be prepared to face some Virindi, Some nasty undead, Augmented and Altered Drudges, and Fire Elementals all the way up to Firestorms.  Here is the route to go:

  1. Head down the tunnel and take a left.

  2. Head down the next ramp and look for a room with a locked door to the west.

  3. Pick the door and continue on until you eventually get past 3 bridges.  At the point there is a T intersection.

  4. Pull the lever in front of you, and head over to the now open door to the right.  There is a PK altar here, and you will fight Cambarth and his Foreman, who have both been given serious upgrades.

  5. Once you kill them, go down the ramp and pull the other lever.

  6. Head back up to the T and continue through the now open door on the other side, hanging a right instead of walking through the exit portal.

  7. Head down and down until you see the pool (shown below).  Open it like a chest and the Water will be inside.

Step 4: Back to Celcynd

Now back to Rithwic and Celcynd.  Hand him the water, and her will tell you:

Celcynd the Dour tells you, "You got the Water of Lethe!  I don't believe it.  I... I've wanted this for... Do you know what this does?  Do you know what it's like... the faces of so many waiting behind your eyes every night?  The children asking you where their parents are?"
Celcynd the Dour tells you, "But... Brentsella.  I'll lose her too, won't I..?"
Celcynd the Dour gives you The Reign of Alfrega.
Celcynd the Dour tells you, "Here's Harlune's book.  Please go, I have to... I need to think. Thank you, but I need to..."

Step 5: And Back to Harlune

Return to the Mite Maze, find Harlune again, and give him the book.  he will tell you:

You give Harlune the Misanthrope The Reign of Alfrega.
examines the book closely.

Harlune the Misanthrope tell you, "Hah, got it back from that drunkard, did you?  Only a fool lets himself lose as much as he has.  Once, he was the greatest of his generation.  Did you know that?"
Harlune the Misanthrope give you scroll of Mt. Lethe Recall.
Harlune the Misanthrope tell you, "You'd never think it to see the sot he is now - well, you got my book back, so you deserve that reward."
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "By the way, I'd be careful when you use that spell."
Harlune the Misanthrope snickers.
Harlune the Misanthrope tell you, "Now leave me in peace."

Now you have it!  Beware when you use the scroll for the first time though, that first step is a doozy!!!  :)
