The Harbinger (by Titoburrus, Dereth's Greatest Superhero™)Quest Goal: Defeat the Harbinger, earn the title "Champion of Dereth", and 1 point in any chosen skill. Titoburrus vs. The HarbingerThe bright sunny afternoon was beginning to break into dusk, and most of the Tou-Tou population had retreated to their various homes for their evening meals. Many of the EpiK crew had gathered at the allegiance mansion where Reginald was cooking up a fine feast of uncooked dough. Titoburrus passed though, he knew better. However, instead of heading home, Titoburrus wandered into the tavern. Something was different tonight, something was going to happen. It was a strange feeling that had overcome Tito. One that only surfaced on the eve of a threat before all of Dereth. The last time this feeling occurred, Tito was summoned to lead his army into the Ancient Olthoi Queen's lair and drive her back to whence she came. So it was no surprise when Mi Chi, the tavern's barkeep, suddenly called to Tito asking him to come quickly. The Harbinger had returned, and Rhyss was urgently seeking the assistance of Dereth's Greatest Superhero™. Rhyss had gathered a few good men, but more was required, much more. So Tito thanked the barkeep, gathered his supplies and headed off to Yanshi. He was right, tonight would be different. >> Come prepared. Bring your best armor, extra healing kits, potions, and spell components. And if you have them, lots of dispell gems. You will also need a special item to be granted access to the dungeon. Successfully completing this quest will grant you a point to any skill you choose, and that is determined by the special item you turn in. Below is a chart of the items required. Make sure you turn in the correct item. If you turn in an item to a skill you do not have, you get nothing. Finally, if you have a Prism weapon, bring that too for the Harbinger at the end. >> Next, get to Yanshi. (Sub, take the Shoushi portal, take the Yanshi portal on the road SW out of town). Titoburrus arrived at Yanshi and met the group of warriors Rhyss had gathered to defeat the Harbinger. A fine group of fellows all of them, but the worry on their face was evident. So was the faint look of hope that crept over them now that Titoburrus was here. The fact that there was an Emissary of Asheron standing nearby, the group knew this was bad. In fact, according to the fellowship, many warriors declined to take part for fear of the Harbinger wrath. Indeed when Titoburrus passed Galvatron on his way to Yanshi, Galvatron too turned down the offer to help. Titoburrus walked up to the Emissary to see if Asheron had any advice: Emissary of Asheron tells you, "With the resurgence of the Harbinger and the assaults levied against it by Nuhmudira and Aerbax, I have taken it upon myself to stand as a balance between the two. I cannot offer the same gifts that they would grant but if you return to me with proof of the Harbinger's defeat I will gladly reward you with the title: "Champion of Dereth"" Titoburrus and the brave band of warriors were not in this for rewards. The safety of the citizens of Dereth was all they required. So the group walked over to Aerbax's servent, Vincadi, who was standing outside the dungeon entrance, and passed over the required items. >> Arrive at the Tunnels to the Harbinger - 12.6S 46.7E (Levels 60+) and give Vincadi your desired item. You give Vincadi Telumiat Hollow Minion Essence. Vincadi tells you, "You have chosen to enhance your understanding of Melee Defense. If you are not already aware of the fundamentals of this skill you will earn nothing. You have been warned. Now enter the Harbinger's Lair so that we might one day reach our goal." >> Buff and bane everything. Once the group is ready head inside. The drop is not always safe. So the mighty band of warriors entered the dungeon with Titoburrus at the point. The lair itself was quite dank and humid, and the hissing of the Sclavus could be heard resonating throughout the entrance chamber, even while still in portalspace. Upon landing, the group was beset by several Sclavus Lords, but having been made aware of the their presence, they were dispatched. Without a map, the group was on their own, but thankfully the lair seemed quite linear making it very difficult to get lost. They made their way past countless high level Slithis tentacles and Sclavus Lords. Amazingly even with all the spells being tossed around, the group was virtually unscathed. >> Make your way through the mess quickly, but be careful, as there will be a lot of debuffs and the tentacles cast life bolts. There is also a very quick respawn so you don't want to stop moving. After clearing about four of five chambers, the group came upon a drop off. They could see an entrance on the far wall across the pit about a story and a half down. Careful not to jump too short and fall to the bottom of the fire pit, the group leaped across the chasm safely. >> At the first jump, we all did a full shift-jump while walking forward. What this did was had us hit the wall above the entrance, then we got sucked into the doorway as we slid down. It looked scary, but nobody had a problem. The intensity picked up at this point, but so did the fellowship's resolve. The Harbinger's presence was becoming more and more apparant. The fog began to take on elemental properties, sometimes looking like a gas cloud, others looking like a statis field. Once again the crew came to a pit. This one looked much safer if the crew just sort of slipped off the edge and down. We did that, and quickly found the hallway, removing ourselves from danger. >> At the second jump, just do a very quick "tap" jump off the edge to the North. Don't jump too hard, and once you hit the ground, find the hallway at the bottom quickly. The band of adventurers continued along in a determined manner, not quite recklace, but with a purpose. The Harbinger's touch was evident everywhere, and the presence told us we shouldn't be lingering around. There were elemental slithis now, casting nasty elemental life bolts, and they seemed to be impervious to the fellowship's attacks. >> Be wary of the Elemental Slithis, you can't kill them. Run through these quickly. Once again, Titoburrus and the crew came upon a chasm. This time it looked like a series of jumps would be required to make it through safely. However, the fellowship consisted of fine men each of them, and yet again they emerged unscathed. >> The third jump is actually a group of 3 jumps, all facing North. The first jump is the hardest, since you want to do a shift-tap jump to make sure you do NOT overshoot the landing. If you go to far, you will land in a fire pit and have to recall or you will die. The other two jumps can be done at full power to make them easier. Again, just make sure you get to the tunnel at the end of the last one quickly to be safe. The Harbinger's presence was everywhere now. Elemental Slithis seemed to be spawning more frequently and the air was getting thicker. Yet the fellowship advanced on, with Titoburrus still at the point. After even more Slithis and Sclavus, the group came to yet another pit. This one had acid at the bottom and no obvious way to avoid it. The fellowship quickly hopped down and made their way out of the acid and into the safety of the hallway where they healed up before continuing. >> This is the fourth and final jump before the Harbinger. You want to do a quick-shift jump down, and then run out of the acid into the hallway to the South as soon as you land. The acid is potent and you will die if you don't move quick. Make sure you are all the way in the hallway so you are completely away from the acid. After healing themselves, the band made their way to a platform where the ground was covered in three of the elementals. In front of them was a fire pit, to the right was an ice pit, to the left was an acid pit, and beyond that was chasm with an electric stasis field hovering above it. In the chasm, the fellowship was able to hear the Harbinger and several of his elementals. The journey, while difficult to this point, had only just begun. The fellowship came up with a plan which required the mages to completely debuff the Harbinger and his elementals before Titoburrus and the rest of his crew jumped into the chasm to face them. So Titoburrus and the three archers sat back while the two mages did their thing. >> It is strongly recommended that the mages debuff everything in the pit before jumping down and facing the Harbinger. Once in the pit, clear the elementals first. Finally, leave at least two mages behind on the platform to chain heal. The Harbinger can and will cast chain debuffs and life bolts. Without mages playing close attention, people WILL die. Even with the healers, death is a strong possibility. Once the Harbinger and his gang were debuffed, the crew jumped over the fire pit and into the chasm where they made quick work of the elementals before turning their attention to the harbinger. With Life Bolts engulfing members of the fellowship for 150 point or more each, the group was constantly having to back out and heal before re-entering the fray. Even Titoburrus found himself at 6 points of health at one point. The mages did a good job with the healing and Titoburrus and the three archers were able to keep the pressure on the Harbinger thanks to the constant heals from above. Eventually, Titoburrus and the warriors were able to wear down the Harbinger and defeat him. However, victory was not without a cost. Unfortunately, Genauigkeit caught one too many Life Bolts and was killed leaving the great victory over the Harbinger forever tainted. Once the Harbinger fell, it left a pile of tenticle arms on the floor. The remaining members of the fellowship each grabbed a tenticle as proof of their victory over the Harbinger. They then headed into the portal to the surface that had spawned allowing them escape from the Lair. >> Once you defeat the Harbinger, make sure everyone grabs an arm from the floor, including the mages who may have been still up top healing... Back on the surface, the band first sought out Asheron's Emissary. You give Emissary of Asheron Harbinger Arm Token. Emissary of Asheron tells you, "Take These. If you so choose I will grant you the title of "Champion of Dereth" if you return the token to me. The stamp is a gift from the High Queen." Emissary of Asheron gives you Harbinger Arm Token. You give Emissary of Asheron Harbinger Arm Token. Emissary of Asheron tells you, "Very well allow me to prepare my voice." Our thanks, Champion of Dereth! After that, the band sought out Vincati, who rewarded the remaining members with the promised experience after hearing their tale of victory. >> Talk to Vincati to get your skill point. (It works just like a tessera.) And so the story ends. Titoburrus returns home, with all of Dereth safer than it was when they woke up that morning. While the masses may never have known the danger they were in, Titoburrus was once again there to keep it that way. And that is why he is, and always will be Dereth's Greatest Superhero™.
Thanks to Rhyss for inviting me on this quest, and to everyone who went along for all the fun! Hope I didn't miss anyone: Rhyss, Genauigkeit, Darksyde, Virindi Exterminator, and Andesxyz.
