| Shadow Hunter Armor RESTRICTION: LEVEL 30 Required to Wield this armor as of Feb 2002, LEVEL 50+ for Shard Enhanced Shadow Armor UPDATED ON 15 JUNE WITH SHARD ENHANCEMENTS TO SHADOW ARMOR Introduction The Shadow Hunter armor is a no-drop armor created by the master armor smiths of Dereth. They are made from a combination of items dropped by Shadows and Fragments, which you will need to kill vast numbers of to get all the items you need. The armors have the following characteristics: | Armor Type | Buffable | Givable | Drop On Death | | Neo Shadow Armor | Yes | Yes | No | | Post-Patch Armor (With Atlan Stone) | No | No | No | | Post-Patch Armor (Without Atlan Stone) | Yes | Yes | No | | Shard-Enabled Shadow Armor | Yes | Yes | No |
Step 0: Preparation As you kill shadows and fragments, you will get some interesting stuff, but the drop rate is very poor (anywhere from 1 in 10 to 1 in 100 or so.) The items you are looking for are as follows: | Monster | Item Dropped | | Shadow Children & Small Shadow Children | Dark Speck | | | Shadows and Shadow Lieutenants | Dark Sliver | | | Panumbris and Umbri Shadows | Dark Shard | | | | | Broken Fragments | Cracked Shard | | | Fragments | Tiny Shard | | | Dual Fragments & Nexus Fragments | Small Shard | |
Step 1: Combining the items Decide which armor you want (see Armor charts at the bottom of this page) Combine the Specks/Slivers/Tinies/Smalls until you have the item you want (see chart below) Repeat steps 1-2 to get a second gem to make the top half
| Combine two of these... | ...To get this | | Dark Speck | | Dark Sliver (2 Specks) | | Dark Sliver | | Dark Shard (4 Specks) | | Dark Shard | | Shadow Fragment (8 Specks) | | Cracked Shard | | Tiny Shard (2 Cracked) | | Tiny Shard | | Small Shard (4 Cracked) | | Small Shard | | Crystal Fragment (8 Cracked) | | | | Then combine these... | ...To get this | | Dark Shard and Small Shard | | Glimmering Gem (4 Specks & 4 Cracked) (2 gems required to make Lesser Armor) | | 2 Glimmering Gems or Shadow Fragment & Crystal Fragment | | Sparkling Gem (8 Specks & 8 Cracked) (2 gems required to make Medium Armor) | | 2 Sparkling Gems | | Scintillating Gem (16 Specks & 16 Cracked) (2 gems required to make Greater Armor) |
Step 2: Getting the Armor Now that you have combined the items and have two gems (glimmering, sparkling, or scintillating), you need to go to the lifestones at one of the below towns to have the armor-smith make your armor. Vendor Locations and Names | Armor Type | Vendor | Location | | Amuli (Gharu'ndim) | Jibril ibn Rashid | 7.1n, 3.0e (Al-Jaliyma LS) | | Celdon (Aluvian) | Aleane Steelforger | 18.5n, 62.8e (Eastham LS) | | Koujia (Sho) | Koga Hideki | 82.9s, 46e (Kara LS) |
Notes: If you take your first gem to one smith and get the bottom half of of the armor, then take the 2nd gem to a different smith, you will get the bottom half of that armor, not a top half. So if you are looking to combine armors, you are going to need THREE gems of whichever class of armor you want. If you take three gems of the same quality to the same armor-smith, the third gem will not get you ANYTHING. One one class of armor of each type allowed per person, sorry. UPDATE: This has changed as well, there is no longer a limit to the number of armor you can get.
Step 3: Enhancing the armor's statistics UPDATE: Now that pre-patch armor is back, you have the ability to get it, or the post-patch armor. It is shown in a separate table as Neo-Shadow Armor. To switch between Neo and Post-Patch, go talk to the same person in the table listed above, and they will swap them out for you. UPDATE: As of April 2003, Now you can enhance your Shadow Hunter Armor even more! You will need to be using UNDYED Greater Neo Shadow Armor. Go hunt Crystal Shards (near Teth is a great place) until you find one. Refer to the table at the very bottom for descriptions of what each do to your armor, besides giving it an extra 50 AL! Be warned though, once a shard is placed within the armor it cannot be removed, and there is a LEVEL 50+ wield Requirement! One shard per piece of armor, so you can have 2 shards in Amuli, 3 in Koijia, and 4 in Celdon. Once you have the armor, you will need to go find the four major Atlan stones (see appropriate quests on the Pilgrim's Respite Armor page.) These stones will enhance the armor's protection by 20 points and make some changes to the elemental protections of the armor. It will at that point however, be non-buffable, and non-givable. To remove a stone from the armor, you will need the Atlan Tool.
