The Story So Far...

As the people of Dereth have journeyed farther and farther, and the landscape has changed, many interesting artifacts have been discovered, from Sturdy Iron Keys to Singularity Keys to Twisted and Mangled keys.  Along with these discoveries have come some confusion, which I hope to clear up with this write-up.

Sturdy Iron Keys

Sturdy Iron Keys have existed nearly as long as the people of Ispar have been in Dereth.  These keys open Steel Chests in various dungeons and in the Dires.  A complete write-up of sturdy iron keys exists here.

Sturdy Steel Keys

One of the most recent developments with the increasing level of monsters in the dires has been an improved version of the Sturdy Iron Key, called a Sturdy Steel Key.  These keys open Sturdy Steel Chests, which are found throughout the dires.  A Complete write-up of Sturdy Steel Keys can be found here.

Mnemosyne Keys

Keys used to open Mnemosynes have existed since the undead have been trying to recover them.  These Mnemosynes contain knowledge needed by them.  These keys (Intricate Wooden, Copper, and Obsidian) unlock the mnemosynes and allow the bearer to receive greater rewards when turning them in.  A compete write-up of Mnemosyne keys exists here.

Virindi Keys

More recently, Virindi caches of equipment have been located throughout the dires.  These caches come in three flavors:  Directors, Masters, and Singularity.  Acquiring the correct type of key allows you to open one of these "chests" to recover the fabulous loot contained within.  A complete write-up of Virindi Keys exists here.

Dark Keys

Recently an area of the dires came into being with very high level monsters, typically with thousands of hitpoints each.  Some of these monsters drop strange twisted or mangled dark keys.  With sufficient skill a master lockpicker with the correct tools can repair these keys, allowing Reinforced Oaken and Mahogany Chests to be opened, discover loot even more fabulous that those contained within Singularity Troves.  A complete write-up of Dark keys exists here.

Keyrings

All of the above keys take up pack space.  As such, it would be nice if there was a way to put them all together.  Well, thanks to some enterprising folks at Turbine, now there is.  Using different types of hearts, you can carve keyrings to put your keys on.  Below is a table of Golem Hearts to carve and what type of keyring they make (Mnemosyne keys are stackable and do not have keyrings):
