The Story So Far...

The original quest, Return to Frore, was the first epic quest with the release of Asheron's Call.  Clan EpiK was the first to actually beat this quest, with Titoburrus receiving the incredible Tremblant's Ivory Staff (retired).  Now, 4 years after the release of Asheron's Call, the quest has been revitalized with more difficult monsters and upgraded rewards!

Step 0: Preparation

  • COLD PROTECTION - Everything in the dungeon casts Cold attacks like they were going out of style.  I HIGHLY recommend Shadow Armor with the Major Cold Protection Shard added to it.

  • All magical protections for getting the seal (best place to get one is the Frost Vault, aka the Serac Vault) and the run to the standing stones

  • LOCKPICKER!  You must have a lockpicker to complete this quest.

Step 1: The Clue and Seals

The first clue comes from town criers...

Town Crier tells you, "If you want to visit Frore, best remember to take a group and be ready to face creatures tougher than Dark Revenants. Seems the inhabitants are preparing for tougher battles."

The second from Mairisa bint Fuda of Plateau Village...

Mairisa bint Fuda tells you, "I came here to be free of the madding pace of the Arcanum at Zaikhal. Unless you have urgent business, I'd prefer to be left to my meditation."
Mairisa bint Fuda tells you, "If you are another seeking the lost City of Frore, be warned - you will need a substantial party to survive. Should you die, you will be unable to reenter the caves to recover your equipment. Be certain you are prepared."

And of course there are various texts that mention Frore, such as The Legend of Frore and The Book of Minesh.  Whatever gets you started on this quest, the first major step is to get a Lich Seal.  Lich Seals can be found on a number of the undead, typically retrievable with a single buff through Serac Vault.  Once you have a lich seal, it is time to start the big run.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  To get the treasure at the end of this quest, you MUST get the translation done, as Mairisa will only give a treasure key to you in exchange for the translation!!!

Step 2: The Standing Stones

You will need to visit three standing stones to recover the three portions of a document.  The standing stones are located at the following coordinates:

  • Bandit Castle - 66.1N 51.4E

  • Neydisa Castle - 69.2N 15.3E

  • Stonehold - 72.0N 22.0W

Now, you MUST visit the Standing stone at Bandit Castle first, as it requires the Lich Seal to open, and flags you to be able to open the other two.  Once you have all three parts, put them together to make the full document, which will then need to be taken to Kuyiza bint Zayi the translator at 13.8N, 0.1E (Zaikhal).  She will translate the document into a set of portal coordinates and then direct you to Mairisa bint Fuda of Plateau (from the clues above) at 44.4N x 43.4W.

Make sure you have your party gathered together at this point, as she will open the portal you need and give the treasure key when given the translation.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  To get the treasure at the end of this quest, you MUST get the translation done, as Mairisa will only give a treasure key to you in exchange for the translation!!!

Step 3: Mountain Cavern

When you step through Mairisa's portal, you will appear on top of a mountain, with 2 Ice Golems:

Kill them and enter the Mountain Cavern Portal.  Once inside, take all lefts until you come to a room with three pillars:

Each of the next two rooms also have three pillars.  To open the three doors you will need to walk through the middle of these pillars (you will hear a click.)  The first door after this is pickable (this is where you have to have a lockpicker in your party) and the next three are triggered by those rooms.  If you want to do this solo, you need to go pick the lock, run up to the top room, then haul butt VERY fast across all three triggers, down the ramps, through the rooms and hallways to the Frore portal (this is how I did it.)

NOTE HERE: The map from ACMaps is wrong on the trigger locations.  The three rooms on the right side of the map with the lvl +1, lvl 0, lvl -1 are the rooms with the trigger plates.

Once through, simply step inside the portal to gain access to the fabulous Lost City of Frore!

Step 4: The Lost City of Frore

Upon arrival in the Lost City, you will be attacked by some Gelidite Golems.  As with everything in this dungeon, fire seems to work best, and landing an imperil on the golems helps them go down MUCH faster.  The door in front of you is locked, so you will once again need the lockpicker to open it for you.

Once through the door, you will want to head down the hallway, up the ramp and into the next big room.  Jump down into the big pit in front of you and go down into the hallway-maze.

Once you enter the maze, keep right, and you will eventually come up into another room with a door and a ramp beyond.  Now you are getting into the city proper.  This next area has numerous buildings with Gelidites occupying them.  As you enter into this big room, keep to the right wall and go through the first door.  In this next little room, take the door on your left and follow it up and around until you get to a lever.  Pull the lever and jump down.  There will be a now open door close by, enter it before it auto-closes and you have to run back around to the lever again.

Go straight through the next area, taking the hallway and ramp on your right near the end of the room.  The overpass here is an excellent point to buff if you are getting low, as there are no other totally clear spots I found for the rest of the trip:

Open the door a little farther and and you will see that it drops down!  Jump straight ahead, and you will be on an elevated area.  Take the ramp down (DO NOT JUMP INTO THE PIT ON THE LEFT, AS IT TAKES YOU BACK NEAR THE BEGINNING!) into the next large area (shown below):

Head straight through this room until you get to the far side and see a door on the right.  Take that door and and follow the passage up and around to a walk-over bridge.

Cross the bridge, head up and you will be in the room with the Chest of Frore!

Kill everything here and grab your prizes!!

There are also three crystal shards in the next room that drop pretty good loot.
