Major Stinging (Acid) Stone

Step 0: Preparation

  This dungeon is entirely populated by Olthoi Soldiers.  They swarm in very high numbers, so I recommend a good size group, with a couple of mages and a couple of high-levels(50+). These are the protections and weapons you will want:

  • Weapon: Bludgeoning if available to your weapon class, Piercing if not.

  • Armor: Shield with Acid and Piercing Banes.  If you already have a stone and are escorting others, I recommend Post-patch GSA with the acid stone in it. In any case, Bane your armor and shield with the best protects you can.

  • Protections: Armor IV, Piercing IV, Acid IV at a minimum.  V's or VI's will make things much easier though

Step 1: Getting There

  The Incunubula Vault is located in the Direlands, at 35.9S  47.2W (map courtesy of ACMaps.)  The closest place that can be tied to is the Swamp Temple (37.6S, 46.1W)  You will want at least one person to tie here and be available to bring people back who die in the dungeon.  Here is a complete map of the dungeon, courtesy of ACMaps.

  The Vault is only a short run from the Swamp Temple, so I recommend you initially buff inside the Swamp Temple, which is safe.  Then, when you exit the Temple, run north west to get to the vault.

Step 2: The Entrance

  Several Olthoi spawn inside the entrance.  This is not a safe place!  There is no "safe" buffing area anywhere in this dungeon, so you need to get through quickly.  If you need to rebuff, best bet is to do it in a hallway, with people on both sides of you.  The majority of people who die down here either get swarmed in the mazes, or die while trying to rebuff.

  You are going to want to go down the ramp indicated by the arrow.  Here is a picture of this ramp as well:

Step 3: The Maze

  Once you go down this ramp, you will be in a rather confusing maze, with smoke and glowing lumps on the ground, looking like they are spewing out sulfur or something.  You will want to head North until you find a Olthoi door on the East wall that leads into a hallway.  This is what it looks like:

Step 4: Big Rooms and Bridges

  Follow the passage down until you get to a large room.  There will be lots of Olthoi in here, so be careful!  (If you get lucky, there will be an archer or two on a perch in the middle of this room.)  You will want to go straight through the room as indicated in the below drawing:

  After you get through here, follow the passage and you will come to a large room with bridges.  Head across all the bridges, killing only the Olthoi on the ground as you go. (There are usually lots of Olthoi on the ropes, but they cannot hit you from there.)  After you cross four bridges, you will come to a passageway.  Go in the passageway, keeping to your left and you will find another big room FULL of Olthoi.  You will want to hug the left wall of that room, going into the passage as shown here:

Step 5: The Acid Pit: Jump or Maze?

  Ok now, This passageway heads down to the Acid Pit room.  Here is an overhead drawing of the Acit Pit room:

  At this point you have two choices:  

  1. If everyone in your group has a good jump skill, you can try to jump across the pit (#2).  Do do this, you must clear the Olthoi that spawn on the other side, so you don't bounce off of them and into the pit.  Hopefully there will be archers perching in the middle of the pit, keeping this room nice and clear for you.

  2. If you don't want to risk the jump, head down the ramp (#1).  It will curve around.  Run straight until you hit a wall, and then head to the right to find the ramp back up.  You will eventually come out at the top-left of the Acid Pit room.

  Note:  If there are plenty of archers perching in here, this is the best spot to rebuff, as they will take down the olthoi very quickly.

Step 6: Final Approach

  After leaving the acid room, you will be going down a passageway, across numerous bridges.  Keep going and you will come to an area that looks like this (overhead map):

  In this room spawn a whole lot of Olthoi.  Your best bet here (if you do not have a BIG group) is to run straight through the room into the hallway with the stone.  Turn around in the hallway, and kill the Olthoi that follow you in.  The stone is at the end of the hallway (shown above).  Congratulations!!!  You now have your Major Stinging Stone!!!
