Aun Hareltah's Weapons

(Brought to you by the great folks at Asheron's Lore)

Introduction:

The quest for Aun Hareltah's elusive weapons of Palenqual has been one spanning nearly three months. In the Dark Majesty expansion pack, players encountered the Hea Assassin, Temenua. Wielding a powerful bow, players brought down this roaming villain, looting the pieces of his now broken bow (the Exquisite Elari Bow) and a Hea Totem.

Upon retrieval of the Hea Totem, they were taken to inspection by the Aun chieftan, Aun Hareltah. He looks over the totem, and quickly adds it to his casting baudren, claiming to be mixing the magical "keh" (spirit) of Hea Temenua with his own. In exchange for the players service, Aun Hareltah offers the players a choice of one of three totems. One of a powerful melee weapon (the Hoeroa), one of the magical Stave (also a Hoeroa) and one of an immense missle weapon (the Kalindan). The player must then choose which one of the three he/she wishes to claim.

The following walkthrough assumes that the player has defeated Hea Temenua, and has given Aun Hareltah the Hea Totem and has recieved their base totem.

Preparation:

Preparation for the beginning of the journey should be standard olthoi readiness. Players should expect to enter each of the individual hives (or contract someone to do so for them) and retrieve a piece of rubble from the Olthoi Noble guarding it.

Acid and piercing protections are essential, especially if you are unfamiliar with the dungeon.

Part I: Rubble Collection

Players must venture into the hives and gather rubble from each to be used to repair the Menhir Rings on the Maraescent Plateau.

All rubble is droppable/giveable and extremely heavy. It may also be a good idea to note what Hive you pulled what Rubble from, considering that Rubble can be extremely difficult to ID.

Tiny Hive

The lowest level dungeon is the Tiny Hive (restricted level 30-50). A mid-sized olthoi dungeon containing all class of Olthoi up to Noble.

Entrance to the dungeon is safe, allowing players to buff at their leisure in relative safety providing no one leads the Soldiers and works up.

Once buffing preparations are complete, you begin your journey. The quickest route to where the Blue Noble spawns is as follows:

  • Go down first ramp and turn left

  • Continue left and hug the wall until you come out into a large sloping hill. Proceed to the end of this room.

  • At the end there are 2 paths. Both will lead to the same room. Pick a path.

  • Coming out into the room, look down and go down the ramp in the center of the room.

  • You will come into a mdeium sized room teeming with olthoi. Defeat them and proceed even deeper down a ramp. (there are 2, but again it does not matter which way you go)

  • Following the ramp down will lead you to a room with 2 Olthoi Nobles. Keep an eye on the spawn. One of these will respawn as a Blue Noble at some point.

  • Defeat the blue noble, claim the rubble, and recall or run out. Be aware that the rubble weighs over 7000 bu.

Out of personal experience, the Blue noble tends to spawn every other respawn. He regenerates rapidly and packs a dangerous hit.

Small Hive

This is the second of the series of 5. The Small Hive (restricted level 40-60) is similar in size to the Tiny hive, and shares many common features of the Tiny hive. This dungeon also contains all class of olthoi up to Noble.

Entrance is moderately safe. However, movement around the main room can distrurb Soldiers below and bring them up to your room. Buff where you land and try not to move around much.

Once buffing is complete, you begin your journey. The quickest route to where the Blue Noble spawns is as follows:

  • Choose the left hand ramp down to begin the run.

  • Continue left and hug the wall, just be sure to make a turn where appropriate or you may get boxed into an olthoi alcove

  • Follow the path until you come out into a large sloping room. There are some mushrooms in this room, with a few people vainly attempting to macro (may not be any longer)

  • When you arrive at the bottom, battle your way to the only exit there. You will come into a room with a triangular doorway in the floor.

  • Go through, open the Olthoi Door blocking your way.

  • At the end of the hall is a small round room with a green mist effect.

  • Within this room spawns a solitary Noble. Kill the noble and await respawn.

Again, via personal experience, the Blue Noble spawned every other respawn. This may vary however.

Simple Hive

The third dungeon dungeon, the Simple Hive (restricted level 50-70) is not one I explored much of. However, like the other Hives. There is an Olthoi Noble here that has a chance of respawning as a Blue Noble. Inside you will find Olthoi Soldiers, Legionaries, and Nobles.

The Noble that may respawn as a Blue Noble can be found in a room with Blue Mist.

Shallow Hive

The Shallow Hive (restricted level 60-80) is the forth, and possibly the most dangerous of all the Hives. Olthoi Nobles and Legionaries are abound, almost always flooding and respawning. Before macroing was put to an end, melees and archers, and even mages, could freely walk around, pick up free loot, and leisurely kill what they wanted. That choice is now somewhat limited.

When arriving in the Hive, it is best to either buff in a corner of the main drop room, or attempt to jump onto the ledge surrounding the portal drop. This ledge is complete safe and Olthoi Free.

Once buffing is complete, you begin your journey. The quickest route to where the Blue Noble spawns is as follows:

  • Once done, jump down from your buff spot and take the only exit ramp there is.

  • At the base of the ramp you can choose to go right or straight. (right leads to exit portal)

  • You will come into a large sloping room, procede to the bottom.

  • Once there, take the only exit out, a downward ramp. This will lead you into one of the two former macro rooms.

  • Procede to the left and leave the room. Continue straight. Ignore the right hand ramp up into the "Bone Room".

  • Follow the hall to a "t"-intersection and turn right. Follow this path.

  • Turn at the next left and you are in the "Steam Room".

  • This is the room the Blue Noble can spawn in. Its spawn point is towards the back of the room. Clear the room and await respawn.

Once again, out of personal experience, I found that the Blue Noble respawned every other respawn. This may not be true for all respawns (had someone in there for 5 respawns with no blue noble).

New Hive

This is the final Hive of the quest, and oddly enough the least threatening. The New Hive (restricted level 70-90) is populated solely by Olthoi Legionaries. The dungeon design is basic and as long as you are observant, the dungeon is straight forward beginning to end. The only hiccough is at the end. You will arrive in a tall tower that demands you to jump down. This is not the final room, meerely the room with the exit portal. One of the side alcoves houses a passage leading into another large room. Inside is usually a half dozen Legionaries and a solitary Olthoi Noble. This noble has the chance of respawning as a Blue Noble.

The New hive is the most erratic of the Hives, and the respawning of a Blue Noble may not always be on a fixed number.

Part II: Totem Aquisition

Now players have their Rubble from the Hives. But what does it all mean? Earlier in thw write-up I mentioned it would be wise to tag each piece of Rubble with the Hive it was pulled from. Here is where this information is crutial as it will determine what Menhir rings you have to at minimum repair.

Rubble Totems are no drop/give unlike the Rubble.

Upon given Aun Hareltah the Hea Totem and recieveing your Base Totem, you will have also recieved a book that details the spells on the Rubble totems, and the Spells the bring with them.

For the most part, the Rubble Quest is two fold. Turbine had intended it as a means for players to once again have a chance to choose sides. One side was intended to gather the pyreal bells, break the rings, and free the queen. The other was intended for players to explore the hives, retrieve the broken menhir rubble, fix the ailing menhir rings and prevent the Queen from rising.

However, this is in reality how the quest will not work. Instead, the most likely outcome for this quest will be as follows (atleast this was how I went about it):

Quest Requirements:

  • Must have at minimum 4 Pyreal Bells to bring Drummer state to the NorthWest Menhir ring (50.1N, 80.4W)

  • Must have at minimum 4 players to drop bells and 1 player to drop rubble.

Quest Procedure: (estimated Time of Completion: ~ 4 hours)

The following procedure is an example of one player wanting to gather all 5 totems.

  • Before anything else, the player hands the New Hive Rubble to the first Drummer at the North East Menhir RIng (53N 73.3W)

  • After doing so, the Bell dropping may procede as usual until the Bell has shatter the South West Menhir Ring (44.7N 81W)

  • Player procedes to North West Menhir Ring (50.1N, 80.4W) and gives Tiny Hive Rubble to Drummer. Drummer mends ring and quest sets back to SW Ring.

  • Player continues backwards handing rubble to the drummers at the appropriate Rings until he has handed over the rubble at the MidEast Menhir Ring (49.6N, 74.6W) at which point the player can opt to leave the quest. For total completion, the player may present another New Hive Rubble to the first Drummer to repair that ring and truely and the quest.

  • At this point the player will have one of each totem (Tonk, Storm, Siraluun, Carenzi, and Timaru) and the player must choose 3 of the 5 totems to attach to the Base Totem. (note: unused Totems can be exchanged with Aun Hareltah for an exp reward!)

  • Players who used themselves as a Belldropper may find themselves barred from Timaru however, and will thus be forced to wait the timer out before trading in unused totem.

The above process can be interupted by the placement of a rubble (when breaking) or a bell (when fixing) to reversing the direction of the quest. This was I believe Turbine's grand intention with the quest. As long as you have the bells and the droppers available, the quest can continue back and forth indefinately.

I would like to thank the following people for their input, suggestion, assitance, and concepts in regards to this write-up:

Hotep of Frostfell (for his desire to comeplte the quest), Fujiko Elite of Frostfell (for her assistance in research and brainstorming), Valari of Frostfell(for the selfless donation of 5 pyreal bells to the cause), the Rhadamanthus Monarchy of Leafcull (for putting up with my rantings, ravings and following through on theories).

Enjoy!
