Asheron's Call Glossary
This is a new page, dedicated to explaining all the terms used in Asheron's Call, to make it easier for the newbie (see "newbie" below) to get the hang of the game a little quicker. If you have a submission, please email it to me at thespectre@aclore.com. Thanks!

:) - emotion - happy face (sideways)
:( - emotion - unhappy face (sideways)
:0 - emotion - suprised, startled (sideways)
:/ - emotion - confused, unsure, just did something dumb (sideways)
;) - emotion - wink (sideways)
:p - emotion - sticking out tongue (sideways)
AB - Short for the town of Ayan Bakur in AC
AC - Asheron's Call, see UO, EQ, DAoC, mmorpg
ack! - expressing surprise, as in Holy Cow! or Yikes! (Dictionary definition - ack is short for acknowledged)
alchy - alchemist
aye - "yes", old time english used by role players
afk - away from keyboard
barneyland - derogatory name for non-pk servers, see also carebearland, barneyland
bbiab - be back in a bit
bbl - be back later
brb - be right back
brt - be right there
btw - by the way
Camping - Waiting for a particular treasure or monster to re-spawn.
candyland - derogatory name for non-pk servers, see also carebearland, barneyland
carebear - derogatory name for non-pk player
carebearland - derogatory name for non-pk servers, see also carebearland, barneyland
char - short for character i.e. your player character
Component, Comps - An item reuired for mage-type characters to cast spells.
Critical - Damage inflicted (by a player or monster) that easily stands above damage normally done by the same source. (i.e. "Adult Reedshark impales you for 28 points of piercing damage" as opposed to 4 or 5.)
Dereth - The main Island of Asheron's Call.

DAoC - Dark Ages of Camelot, another mmorpg
Direlands (AKA Dires) - The western portion of Dereth (shown on the map with the skull.)
EQ - Everquest, Sony's roleplaying game, also known as EverCrack
gay - derogatory term usually meaning something lame as opposed to homosexual connotation
hally - halberd, a long shaft bladed weapon
hail - roleplayer "hello", as in Hail and Well Met
ic - I see i.e. I understand, see also oic
imo, imho - in my (humble) opinion
JoO, jOo - kewl dood speak for "you", as in I RoXxOr JoO, has caused occasional misinterpretation as being anti-semetic slang for people of the Jewish faith but IMHO this is not the case.
k - short for OK
k3wl - cool dude speak for the word 'cool'
kat - katana, a type of sword weapon
l33t - kewl dood speak for "elite"
l8r - Later
Lag - Sluggish performance in game usually due to a slow internet connection or overloading of the AC servers, but can also be due to overloading of the client computer's CPU or RAM. May show up as a Yellow link light within the game.
lamr - lamer - a person who is or does lame or stupid things
lmao - laughing my ass off, see also lol, rofl, roflmao, rofmaopimp
lol - laughing out loud, see also lmao, rofl, roflmao, rofmaopmp
m8 - mate
Mage - Any character that attacks monsters or players directly with magic as a means of fighting.
Marae Lassel - New Island North-West of the main landmass in Asheron's Call. Requires Asheron's Call: Dark Majesty to get there.
Melee - Any character who uses a hand-to-hand weapon as a means of fighting other monsters or players.
mmorpg - massive multiplayer online roleplaying game, such as UO, EQ, AC, etc.
Mule - A secondary character created for the purpose of storing and identifying items. Some mules also were made to help with fletching, alchemy, and/or cooking.
Newbie - A person who has recently purchased Asheron's Call, and is still learning the ropes., see also nub, noob, noobie
nm - never mind
np - no problem
nub - newbie - used as insulting term to other players (new and old), see also nub, noobie
noob - newbie - used as insulting term to other players (new and old), see also noob, noobie
noobie - newbie - used as insulting term to other players (new and old), see also nub, noob
oic - Oh, I see, i.e. I understand
omg - Oh my god!
own, ownz - Similar to RoX, as in I OwNz JoO - kewl dood speak for I beat you, I defeated you, etc.
peeps - people
PK - AKA Player Killer. Characters on Darktide or ones who are no longer under Asheron's protection and can attack/kill/loot other PKs. It is rumored that several PK altars exist throughout Dereth.
pots - potions
prolly - probably
PvP - Player vs Player combat
PvM - Player vs Monster combat
Pyreals - The standard value of currency on Dereth.
sos, mib - message in a bottle
reds - murderers, pk's
rofl - rolling on floor laughing, see also lol, lmao, roflmao, roflmaopmp
roflmao - rolling on floor laughing my a** off see also lol, lmao, rofl, roflmaopmp
roflmaopmp - rolling on floor laughing my a** off peeing my pants, see also lol,lmao, rofl, roflmao
r0x, roXxOr - cool dood speak for defeat, i.e. I RoXxOr JoO (I beat/killed you)
rp - refers to role player or roleplaying in general
Rubber-band Effect - You'll know what I'm talking about when you experience it in the game. You'll be moving along and suddenly get "bounced" back to a previous position.
RvR - Realm versus Realm combat (DAoC Term)
stfu - shut the f**k up, i.e. shut the heck up (polite version)
suck, sux - verb, derogatory or insulting as in U SUCK, That Sux
sup (?) - greeting, as in what's happening? or what are you up too? see also whassup
teth - Short for Fort Tethana in AC
thx, ty - short for "thanks" or "thank you"
U or u - you, as in How R U
UO - Ultima Online
vet - veteran or long-time player
wassup (?) - greeting, as in what's happening? or what are you up too? see also sup
woot! - dood speak expression kinda like "Yahoo!" or "Whoopie"
wtf - what the f*ck? i.e. what the heck? (polite version)
Y or y - short for 'yes', also can be used for why?
*yawn* - emote used to indicate boredom or don't care attitude, i.e. I am bored with what you are saying
yw - You're welcome, reply to "thx" or "ty".
